Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Chateau de Lancyre is arguably the best domaine in the Languedoc's top wine district, Pic St. Loup. The Lancyre Roussanne offers aromas of peaches and country hay on the nose, with just a touch of spearmint and honey. It is big, bold and crisp, with great freshness on the palate. Enjoy this unoaked wine on its own or with poultry, creamy pasta dishes, or seafood (especially sole or fried calamari). 90% Roussanne, 10% Viognier.

Critical Acclaim

"...scented with fennel, mint, pear, Persian melon, and diverse floral perfume, all of which follow on a luscious, silken palate, to which finishing notes of cress, white pepper, pear pip, and crushed stone lend invigoratingly incisive, tactile counterpoint....There are a lot of experiments in the Languedoc and Roussillon with Roussanne and Viognier (of which this bottling always contains a bit), but few if any have proven more consistently compelling than Lancyre’s, and none I know has demonstrated remotely its track record..."

A slightly dry white, excellent if you love hints of pear and lemon. I enjoyed this wine with a chicken pasta dish.

Pear and peach on the palate with hints of white pepper. Just the right combination of sweet, luscious peaches and spice.

Learn About Rhone White Blends

White Rhone blends consist of two or more white grapes from its namesake region. This includes Viognier, Rousanne, Marsanne and Grenache Blanc. Other white grapes may be included in miniscule amounts, but the above four are the principles. In the Rhone, Viognier is typically alone in the Northern Rhone and absent in the Southern Rhone, although, in the north, 20% of the variety...
