Winemaker's Notes

The color reveals distinctive violet highlights. A refined and complex nose showing aromas of violets and fruits of the forest. On the palate a wine that is rich and powerful yet with a perfectly balanced and harmonious structure, and a long aromatic finish.

Blend: 75% Grenache, 25% Syrah

Critical Acclaim

"A very juicy, unctuous, fruit-driven style, with flattering plum, warm linzer torte and boysenberry fruit melded together and backed by lively anise and sweet spice notes. There's a good sappy feel through the finish. For fans of the not-shy style. Drink now through 2023."
93 Points

"A beautiful wine, the fleshy, concentrated 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as copious incense, black currant, cherry, damp earth and forest floor notes."
91 Points

"Bright ruby. Exotic, smoke-accented aromas of raspberry, cherry and potpourri, with Asian spice adding complexity. Juicy, penetrating red and dark berry flavors show very good energy and appealing sweetness, with tangy acidity adding lift. Finishes seamless and long, with very good clarity and lingering spiciness."

As the name suggests, the wine region was named after the new papal home, referring to the period of time in the 1300's when the pope resided in Avignon instead of Rome. Notable Facts...

Most of these varieties are used as secondary blending partners, often comprising less than 10% of the blend. The primary red players of Rhone blends are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Most wines from the Southern Rhone use Grenache as their...
