Delas Crozes-Hermitage Le Clos 2009
Syrah/Shiraz from Rhone, France
The Crozes-Hermitage "Le Clos" cuvée has a deep ruby red color, with garnet tinges. The nose shows aromas of stewed black fruit (cassis and blackberries). As it opens up, it reveals hints of leather and game. The palate is perfectly balanced, with a combination of suave delicacy and considerable volume. The finish is lifted by flavors of very ripe black cherries. This wine pairs well with river game, mixed grills and marinated beef or chicken.
The Wine Advocate - "There is no problem understanding the 2009 Crozes-Hermitage Le Clos. Aged completely in small French oak barrels, it boasts a striking minerality, a wonderfully dense ruby/purple color and sweet notes of creme de cassis, black raspberries, licorice, crushed rocks and spring flowers. Full-bodied and dense, with some tannins still to shed, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and is capable of lasting two decades. "
International Wine Cellar - "Vivid ruby. Intense cherry, redcurrant and licorice aromas are lifted by an alluring potpourri element. A scented, mineral-driven midweight that offers assertive, attractively sweet flavors of red and dark berries and candied flowers. Finishes sweet and very long, with impressive nuance to its floral and spice elements. This vineyard is on granite, in the northern Chassis sector of the appellation.

About France - Other regionsWhen it comes to wine, France is a classic. Classic blends, grapes and styles began in the country and they still remain. Think about it - people ask for a Burgundian style Pinot Noir, they refer to wines as Bordeaux or Rhone blends - Champagne even had to pass a law to stop international wineries from putting their region on the label of all sparkling wine.
The top regions of France are: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Languedoc-Roussillon, Loire, Rhone. And these regions are so diverse! It makes sense that wine regions throughout the world try to emulate their style. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are no longer French varieties, but international varieties. They may not be the leader of cutting edge technology or value-priced wines, but there is no doubt that they are still producing wines of great quality and diversity.
