We have worked with petite syrah from Shell Creek vineyard for about fifteen years, yet have chosen to keep the wines separate only twice before. Thos early wines, bottled after only nine months in the barrel, focused on fresh berry fruit and assertive oak notes. This vintage spent fifteen months in the barrel, trading some youthful exuberance for a greater sense of roundness and integration. At the core, the vineyard characters of blueberry, tobacco and spice define this wine, while oak adds complexity and depth without dominating. We are pleased with the synergy afforded by the extra aging, and feel the wine will capably accompany hearty dishes such as roast lamb or spicy jambalaya.
