Wine Style Guide
Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.
Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.
Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.
Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.
Stunning and complex, brimming with layers of overripe cherries, leather, molasses and caramel, the 1997 is still extremely rambunctious and youthful. Beautiful density on the palate with plenty of broad, harmonious tannins. This near perfect wine portends many years of enjoyment ahead.
"The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon (2,800 cases from a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc) boasts an opaque purple color as well as a gorgeous nose of mineral-infused black currants, and spicy oak. Full-bodied, structured, muscular, and multi-dimensional, it is approachable, but best cellared for 2-4 years, and drunk over the following 20-25 years. "
The Wine Advocate
"Saturated full ruby. A fruit bomb of a nose: cassis, blueberry, licorice and espresso, complicated by a floral topnote from the franc and a whiff of dark chocolate. Suave, chewy and very concentrated, with excellent acidity to frame the lush fruit. Tannins are big but sweet. Showing very well."
