Wine Style Guide
Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.
Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.
Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.
Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.
Alcohol By Volume: 13.9%
Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Rich deep dark berry color with creamy mocha-espresso flavors is the first impression of this wine. The tannins are well-integrated with the fruit and create a long finish that keeps going. It's full-bodied with a saturated finish while accompanied by bright acidity and infused by black current and cooked blueberries. Balanced and intense, it showcases what Bordeaux varieties can perform when managed correctly.
"Starting with their straight Cabernet Release, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is an outstanding blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. It has classic blackcurrant, tobacco leaf and earthy qualities in its full-bodied profile, and it stays lively and fresh, with notable purity of fruit. It will evolve gracefully for upward of a decade. "
The Wine Advocate
"A top wine in its price category; rifined black currant aromas and flavors; well-built on the palate; fine persistent finish."
Smooth & Supple
grilled ribeye of beef
A masterful cabernet with lots to offer! Beautiful ripe fruit that lasts from start to finish. Drinks really well now. Daou is a one of California's top and yet to be known wineries, except by insiders. (tasted: August 28, 2014)
