Crios de Susana Balbo Malbec 2008
Malbec from Argentina, South America
Wine Style Guide
Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.
Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.
Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.
Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.
The wine has a beautiful reddish/purple color as most good Malbecs do. The aromas are a mix of fresh crushed cherries and toasty/smoky oak—just enough to frame the exuberant fruit. On the palate, the flavors of cherries and spice are obvious, and the jammy fruit quality just keeps coming on strong, with hints of spice lurking in the background. This is a wine that you'll want to buy by the case because it can be consumed at almost any occasion, whether at a fancy dinner party, or just curled up on the couch in front of a movie. Fun and delicious—what more can you ask for?!
"The 2008 Malbec spent 8 months in first use French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it offers up an alluring bouquet of Asian spices, cassis, cedar, incense, and black cherry. Medium-bodied, savory, and elegant, this spicy Malbec will also provide pleasure over the next 4 years. "
The Wine Advocate
Great wine. Rich flavor without being to dry.
Velvety, fruity, gorgeous deep red color. A marvelous malbec for the price.
Great nose, bouquet & body. Jumps right out at you. Very pleasant after-taste.
What a great mouthful of fruit, spices, and berries. Great finnish with moderate tannins.
Slightly astringent start, and the body is a bit lean, but has a decent finish and reasonable balance overall. For an inexpensive (screw-cap) table wine, this is a decent Malbec.
We like Malbec but just found this wine OK. Not like other 90+ Malbec's we have tasted.
This was a thoroughly mediocre wine; lacking in complexity and really just kind of boring. There are better choices at this price.
