Winemaker's Notes

Pale straw with green hints. The aromas are of white peach, citrus and delicate tropical fruits. The mouth filling palate is awash with flavors of fresh apple, nectarine, lime and tropical notes. The flavors are underlined by fine supporting acidity and a chalky texture that leads into a very long, rich and clean lime and passionfruit finish.

Critical Acclaim

"The storms that hit Marlborough in April 2008 headed off to sea, missing Martinborough. So winemaker Adrian Baker says there was no rain pressure during harvest at Craggy Range, where the 2008 ripened to rich passion fruit flavors. Baker allowed a thrid of the wine to ferment with indigenous yeast, and fermented a small portion in the barrel. The result is a potent, generous Sauvignon with lasting spice and saturated fruit flavor. Decant it for crab."
93 Points

"With fruit sourced from Martinborough, the 2008 Te Muna Road Sauvignon Blanc has a very well defined, very pure nose with just a touch of chalkiness coming through, complemented with a faint hint of greengage. The palate is neutral on the entry – this Sauvignon is more about poise and freshness with subtle notes of green apple, lime and orange-blossom towards the finish. Excellent. "
90 Points

"Pale, bright yellow. Pungent aromas of lime, green apple, quinine and tarragon. Almost silky on entry, then quite taut, even austere, in the middle, showing a mineral pungency to its grapefruit pith, lemon zest and fresh herb flavors. Dry and bracing but not quite hard. Finishes with good aromatic lift and persistence. Still, this rather uncompromising wine is almost painful today and could use another six months of patience."

This wine says New Zealand. Very bright and crisp fruit flavors with a nice, slighlty tart finish.

Crisp, slightly tart, very nice bottle of SB. Great with marinated chicken breast. Would buy again.

Was very surprised by this one. Very tropical on the nose with a very slight tart aftertaste common to the region's SBs. Excellent wine we had with chicken, but would probably go very well with seafood too.

Learn About Craggy Range Winery Map ItMap It

From the beginning, Craggy Range Winery has some great land and vineyards and a wonderful home in which to weave the strands together. The first wines made in the 1999 vintage are from small parcels of mature vineyards in Marlborough and Hawkes Bay. The wines show the character of the vineyards and the Craggy Range philosophy of wine both inside and outside the bottle. In time, as the vines mature on their own estates, the wines of Craggy Range Winery will without doubt express their origin and the commitment and skill of their people.
