Concha y Toro Terrunyo Carmenere 2000
Carmenere
from Chile, South America
winemaker's notes:
Looking for something delicious and new? This wine was what Bordeaux was originally primarily made from, now its found almost exclusively in Chili. This is the best example in the world of this incredible variety, which combines the best of Cabernet and Merlot.
Bright, deep red in color; exhibits hints of chocolate, pepper and strong spices. Tasty and full-bodied, with strong tannins imparting the particular style of this very unique varietal which grows virtually nowhere else.
This Carmenère originates in Lot 21 of Concha y Toro's Peumo vineyards, an area noted for highly permeable, poor soil. A 12-year-old vineyard was selected, the oldest in the area. Yields are extremely low, resulting in rich, concentrated wines.
This Carmenère was blended with a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in French oak barrels for 19 months. Enjoy this wine with red meats, cheeses, pastas and wild rabbit.
"Concha y Toro has really stepped up the quality of its higher-end wines, as this delicious Carmenère shows. Lovely flesh and balance here, with ripe blackberry and plum flavors, suave toast, and a long, creamy finish that delivers another wave of fruit."
