Concha y Toro Marques de Casa Concha Merlot 2001
Merlot
from Chile, South America
winemaker's notes:
Velvety, supple, mouthwatering Merlot from Chile at a great price. Deep purple in color, with a bouquet of red plums, black peppers, cassis, with hints of spices. This Merlot has velvety, firm, ripe tannins imparting smoothness and balance. Subtle hints of vanilla and ripe fruit.
Aged 14 months in one, two, and three years old French oak barrels, then aged for a further six to 8 months after bottling.
Enjoy with red and white meats, pasta, cheese.

This is a stunning Merlot, the finest I have had from Chile. Yes Plum, Blackberry and spice on nose and same on palate as well as masses of fruit. A well structured wine. This will age 4 or 6 years. If you can keep it.

I had the pleasure of attending the Spring Wine Tasting and sampled this wine (and went back to table 4 for more!). Great aroma, body and most importantly taste!!
