Sauvignon Blanc in particular is a wine that is best styled in the vineyard, and Columbia Crest winemaker Doug Gore works with the vineyard team to play up fruit and downplay herbaciousness without loosing it altogether. The 1998 Sauvignon Blanc has a subtle herbal note and a touch of flint that is complemented nicely by wildflower, honey and ripe melon. A small portion of the wine was barrel aged for roundness and complexity without sacrificing the wines crisp acidity. Fifteen percent Semillon contributes depth and complexity.
