Columbia Crest Grand Estates Syrah 2001
Syrah/Shiraz
from Columbia Valley, Washington
winemaker's notes:
This Rhone-style wine features fresh rose, ripe strawberry and white pepper aromas. A terrific balance between fruit and cocoa flavors delivers a soft, well-integrated wine with a lush, lingering finish.
The Grand Estates Syrah is harvested predominantly from vineyards located on the Horse Heaven Hills (balance and complexity), Wahluke Slope (texture and body), and Yakima Valley (aromatics).

I liked it. Far from a wine afficionado, to me a wine is good if it is smooth, doesn't make my cheeks pucker and has some body. (Can't stand a "thin" wine). The 2001 Syrah is all of that - and actually has a nice balance. I highly recommend it for people like me -- need a nice red, but won't spend 25.00 a bottle. One last note -- I researched it for fun, the Columbia Crest vineyards include fields in the Horse Heaven region - a new wine appelation, and this wine won a silver medal in Riverside International Wine Competition 2004. - Can I get paid for this?
