Vintage 1999 likely will be remembered as one of the more unusual and celebrated vintages of the past decade. Mild winter temperatures preceded a typical mid-March bud break. An atypical cool, cloudy weather pattern held from mid-April through July resulting in lighter fruit set and lower grape cluster weights. By mid-August temperatures warmed and a pattern of warm, cloud free days continued through October. The disparity between daytime and nighttime temperatures during this time-as much as 40 ° F-delayed harvest by a couple of weeks. When fruit arrived at the winery, it was intensely flavored with abundant sugar and moderate balancing acidity.
Pineapple and layers of butterscotch, cinnamon and nutmeg are expressed in the nose. Clean and spicy on the palate, this medium-bodied wines lingering aftertaste makes this a wine to savor.
