winemaker's notes:
The 2007 Col Solare exhibits aromas of black cherry, currant, and ripe black berries, together with subtle notes of espresso and vanilla in the nose. On the palate, this full bodied wine is rich
with flavors of dark chocolate, black fruits, and a coconut spice which leads to a lingering, silky finish.
Blend: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc

critical acclaim:
"An excellent Col Solare; the best yet. It has suppleness and structure, with a panoply of fruits, from cassis to slightly candied cherries. The barrel notes are here in proportion, adding toast and coffee and chocolate, and the tannins are firm and polished. A strong core leads into a tight, confident finish."

Wine Enthusiast
"Aged in barrel for 21 months and built for the long haul, this blend of cabernet sauvignon (75 percent), with the balance Merlot and Franc, comes from sources that include Klipsun, Hedges and Cold Creek. The flavors are held in a powerful oak frame, supporting a pure shot of blue fruit that fills the middle palate; the tannins are firm but supple. Cellar it, then serve with a New York strip."

Wine & Spirits
"The 2007 Col Solare is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The wine was aged in 85% French and 15% American oak, 100% new. Col Solare has planted a beautifully situated estate vineyard but the fruit is not quite ready to be included. Medium purple-colored, if offers up an inviting perfume of pain grille, pencil lead, espresso, violets, black currant, and blackberry. Structured and dense on the palate, the wine has superb intensity, volume, and balance. It will reward another 5-7 years of cellaring and will deliver prime drinking from 2016 to 2032."

The Wine Advocate
"Medium ruby. Slightly reduced aromas of cassis, chocolate, mocha and violet. Lush, rich and deep but still a bit youthfully unforthcoming, showing less sweetness of fruit than the Canoe Ridge or Cold Creek cabernets. A menthol element and substantial dusty tannins contribute to the impression of solid structure. A rather "interior" wine today, with a serious architecture for aging."

International Wine Cellar
"Supple and inviting, with a lively texture to the dark berry, currant, floral and spice flavors, coming together smoothly on the focused, mildly chewy finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc."

We loved the 2006 and I think I like the 2007 even more. Got this on sale and discounted at $40./bottle and at that price, it's a great bargain. A nice Bordeaux style blend with lots of fruit up front. A little spice and some chocolate on the palate. What we like about this wine a lot is the smooth tannins, expecially if decanted for an hour or two. There is a little acidity on the finish which we hope we lessen with age.
