winemaker's notes:
Imagine a salsa of tomato, quince and passionfruit, freshly chopped basil leaves and a sprinkling of lemongrass. Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2001 is vibrantly fresh and has all the hallmarks of a classic Marlborough sauvignon blanc…. a tangy, concentrated, mouthfilling wine.

If speaking in stereotype, Sauvignon Blanc is a very herbal, grassy wine. That can be great, too. But Cloudy Bay combines the refreshing acidity and tropical fruit of a great Riesling without the mineral notes often found in, say, a Mosel Saar wine. There is a reason this wine is virtually the sole reason New Zealand found its place in the wine world. It's damn good.

This is a glorious cocktail of classic old world sauvigngon blanc and southern hemisphere - gooseberries and cut grass with hints of melon, pineapple and honey all delivered with total clarity. Before you know it, the bottle is empty - and the retailer here limits purchases to 2 per person from a very limited stock! Worth every cent.

Excellent crisp Sauvignon Blanc. As good as you can get. Light and delicous.
I recentlly returned from New Zealand where it is in short supply and highly valued. Truly enjoyed numerous bottles on a large and beautiful sailing yacht. Bought out a wine shop (1 case) on my way out of town; wine being stored for the America's Cup 2003.
