Winemaker's Notes

"Vivid red. Fresh raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by woodsmoke, garrigue and yellow rose. Strikingly pure and sweet, with deep red and dark berry preserve flavors, silky texture and no obvious tannins. Almost Burgundian in style, with a very long, powerfully fruity finish. Here's another 2007 that will be a stunner out of the gate."
International Wine Cellar 91-94

"The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is going to have plenty of admirers. Deep plum/ruby to the rim, medium to full-bodied, with a classic nose of garrigue, smoky meats, loads of kirsch and black currants, this broad, dense wine exhibits superb purity, enough acidity for focus and freshness, and a long, heady finish. This is one of the best traditional cuvees made in several years."

Redolent of pre-phylloxera cat piss. Subtle nose of on-your-heal dog feces. Bouquet of semen stained sheets. Otherwise, quite good.

Jean-Claude Sabon performs most of the vineyard work himself, while his son Thierry (who has a...

(shah-too-NUHF due Pahp) Southern Rhone's landmark region, Chateauneuf du Pape, was the first region to gain AC status in France. That was the 1920s - it's history goes much further back than that. As the name suggests, the wine region was named after the new papal home, referring to the period of time in the 1300's when the pope resided in Avignon instead of Rome. Notable Facts...

Most of these varieties are used as secondary blending partners, often comprising less than 10% of the blend. The primary red players of Rhone blends are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Most wines from the Southern Rhone use Grenache as their...
