winemaker's notes:
The nose, very fine, with the delicacy of spicy pepper. The mouth is elegant, classy, very complex with aromas of black fruit with pear and wild quince jam. This wine shows a very great length and worthy of a great wine for aging.
Blend: 60% Grenache and 40% Mouvedre

critical acclaim:
"The flagship wine, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve (a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre, all aged in 600-liter demi-muids) comes from the lieux-dits of the sandy soils of Pignan for the Grenache and Guigasse for the Mourvedre. Raspberry, black cherry, crushed stones, lavender, and spring flowers jump from the glass of this deep ruby/purple-colored wine. Medium to full-bodied, fresh and lively, with good structure, it’s not a blockbuster in the style of the 2007, 2005, 2001, 2000 and 1998, but rather a more elegant, mineral-laced effort that will be drinkable at a much earlier age than usual for this cuvee. It should be hitting on all cylinders in 1-2 years, and last for 10-12.

The Wine Advocate
"Bright ruby-red. Pungent, assertive aromas of candied red fruits, cola, incense and potpourri, with a hint of vanilla in the background. Stains the palate with deep raspberry and cherry flavors and becomes spicier with air. Supple tannins lend shape to the extremely long, sweet, penetrating finish. This is still a baby."
