Clos des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2001
Rhone Red Blends
from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone, France
winemaker's notes:
Complex aromas of cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and smoke enhance this sweet, dense, ripe and harmonious Chateauneuf du Pape with a solid underlying structure. The 2000 Finishes with balanced, unaggressive, and ripe tannins.
"The Avrils consider the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape the finest they have made since 1990. Produced from meager yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare, it tips the scales at 14.5% alcohol. Backward and promising with a deep ruby/purple color and sweet nose of black fruits intermixed with plums, saddle leather, minerals, and truffles...pure, full-bodied, moderately tannic, classic vin de garde...." - Wine Advocate
