winemaker's notes:

Forest floor and Chanterelle mushroom greet the nose immediately. The aroma quickly develops into layers of cardamom, clove, and leather. After decanting, citrus blossom, blackberry jam, and dried currants evolve. This wine is unquestionably Stags Leap District: balanced fine-grained tannin, concentration, and fresh minerality. Satsuma peel, dark chocolate, black cherry, and damson plum characterize the lengthy finish. At cellar temperature, further rewards can be found up to 24 hours after uncorking, in the form of maraschino cherry and raspberry.

alcohol by volume: 14.9%
critical acclaim:

"The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap (75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc) is everything that one expects in a wine from this sector that is known for elegance, harmony, and Margaux-like finesse. A perfectly balanced Cabernet, it exhibits a dense purple color along with a big, sweet nose of spring flowers, black and red currants as well as graphite. It is deep, rich, young, and promising with plenty of tannin, but an unmistakable, profound minerality. Although accessible, 2-3 years of bottle age will be beneficial, and the wine should age for two decades. "

The Wine Advocate

"Good full ruby-red. Cassis, minerals, mocha, brown spices and a hint of nutty oak on the rather reticent nose. Then supple, rich and sweet, with a lush texture and insidious intensity to the dark fruit and mineral flavors. The suave finish features fine-grained tannins and nice lift."

Actually 2.75 stars. First of all, the 2007 vintage of Napa valley is regarded as one of the best of all time. This wine has a good and clean color. On the nose, this wine has, somehow, a lot of things to offer. A lot of black fruits, cassis, blackberry, a hint of licorice, very fruit-forward, and A LOT of oak! On the midpalate, there is a lot of heat and oakyness going on and it is almost the only thing you feel at this stage. Finish, it is long, very tannic, harsh, and not really pleasant (because of the oakyness). There are also some black fruits shyly dancing on my palate. Overall, this wine has a good nose, a little bit below average midpalate, and unpleasant finish. Because of the amount of oakyness and heat this wine has, I think this wine is a little bit (just a little bit) disjointed and unbalanced. I feel the oakyness and heat are at one place and all the fruity flavors are at another place. Also, this wine shows that it has some potential. Clearly it will evolve during the next 9 to 16 years. However, I totally disagree with Robert Parker (a wine critic that I like the most). I am 87 on this effort. Happy drinking!
