winemaker's notes:

The 2005 Brookman Syrah highlights the quality of the fruit that is produced from eighty year old vines, planted on gravel, ironstone and clay earth. An aristocratic wine, Brookman Syrah has notes of black fruits, chocolate, and intense roasted meats. This fabulously rich and intense Syrah possesses flavors of licorice, leather, spice and blackberries with refined tannin structure and an extended finish.

The Brookman Syrah is for those who enjoy subtlety and softness. This vineyard's best years are displayed after cellaring for 5-10 and thereafter for 15-20.

alcohol by volume: 14.5%
critical acclaim:

"The 2005 Syrah Brookman Vineyard exhibits a complex array of toasty oak, violets, espresso, tar, blackberry, and blueberry. Like its siblings, it is opulent, sleek, and rich. It can be enjoyed over the next 20-25 years. "

The Wine Advocate

"Ripe, supple and beautifully balanced, with a pretty violet tinge to the rich aromas of blackberry and cherry. Supported by super refined tannins, this rockets over the palate, hinting at smoky spice and cream as the finish lingers effortlessly. Best from 2009 through 2020. 500 cases imported."

Wine Spectator

"Opaque violet. Blueberry, cassis, vanilla and molasses on the nose, with slow-building tar and black cardamom qualities. Sappy, velvety, deeply concentrated kirsch and dark berry liqueur flavors boast palate-saturating sweetness. Chewing tobacco and candied licorice add complexity to the long, sweet finish. I suppose that there are tannins here but the sweetness seems to have left them for dead.
