Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep burgundy color with dense purple hue. Aromas of black currants, blueberry with hints of black tea and floral notes. There is elegance from the front palate right until the finish, this blend is the proverbial iron fist with a velvet glove. Fine tannins and lush mid-palate make this a delectable experience on the palate.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2009 Red Blend Elevage is one of the most beautiful wines I have tasted from Chimney Rock in some time. Silky tannins support an expressive mélange of dark, juicy raspberries, flowers, spices and mint in this sexy, totally harmonious wine. Simply put, all the elements are in the right place. The 2009 is gorgeous today and it should continue to drink nicely for at least another decade. The Elevage is 44% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot and 6% Cabernet Franc."
92 Points

"Offers pure, rich, vivid and supple dark berry fruit that folds into black licorice, fresh earth, cedar and tobacco. Tannins flex their strength in a pleasing way. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2013 through 2024."
