If I had to use one word to describe the 1997 harvest, it would be complex. While this was one of our earliest harvests ever, the fruit didnt process any of the qualities normally associated with a hot vintage. The sugar levels were slightly higher than previous years and the overall balance was perfect. Color extraction was the best Ive ever seen at Chimney Rock. In fact, many of the lots that went into this wine were virtually opaque. The finished wine is packed with ripe fruit and juicy berry flavors. It is concentrated, firmly structured and thick.
