Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Subtle nose with saffron and mineral notes. Vivid attack on citrus zest flavors; we have an explosive full-bodied wine with floral aromas such as acacia and vine flower. 2003 is the year of dryness in France. 2003 is a great vintage, full of strength with lots of residual sugars which will become more and more candied throughout the age.

Blend: 88% Semillon, 8% Sauvignon, 4% Muscadelle

Critical Acclaim

"Incredible nose of honey, apple pie, toffee and spices. Intense. Layers of fruit. Full-bodied, thick and very sweet. Pure honey. Better than the 2001. Spread over buttered toast ... just joking. Best ever from here."

Don"t discount Sauternes' neighbor, Barsac, or even the region across the river,...
