Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

This Sauvignon Blanc from our Horse Heaven Vineyard delivers aromas of citrus and green apple with lively herb spice notes. We used partial stainless steel fermentation to preserve the Sauvignon Blanc's vibrant varietal character and fresh, crisp quality. For me, this wine represents the classic Washington style of Sauvignon Blanc with a crisp citrus character and a soft mouthfeel.

Critical Acclaim

"Bright and vibrant, playing grapefruit and lime against pretty floral and mint notes, lingering teasingly. Drink now. 20,000 cases made."
90 Points

"The 2008 Horse Heaven Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc does not shy away from the grape's natural grassy pungency. Rather, it embraces it, supporting the herbaceous aromas with ripe tree fruit flavors and some sweet spiciness from the portion (about one fifth) that was barrel fermented. A very nice combination of barrel and stainless styles."

Rating:
(2/24/2011)
This was a crisp, acidic wine that pairs well with brie, apples or green grapes. The initial taste is a little "hot," but it mellows out with time.
