Chateau St. Jean Sonoma County Reserve Chardonnay 2002
Chardonnay
from Sonoma County, California
winemaker's notes:
Selected as the highest-rated Chardonnay for the 2002 vintage by Wine Enthusiast! Dynamite Chardonnay at a very reasonable price.
Bright inviting notes of pineapple, nectarines, kiwi and hints of mineral begin the nose on this Reserve Chardonnay. A medium-bodied wine enters with mouth filling and viscous layers of buttered toast, lemon meringue and vanilla extract. Beautifully balanced with just the right acidity, this wine has lengthy finish leaving hints of peaches on the palate.
The best fruit from Chateau St. Jean's premier vineyards (including Robert Young, Belle Terre, and Durell) is set aside for this Reserve Chardonnay. Great care is taken to create a great bottle of wine, including aging in sur lie for 17 months in French oak barrels, and then bottle aging for an additional year before release.

I must concur - this is a seriously good Chardonnay. Full lush but crisp flavors with lemon giving way to a buttery like flavor experience. The Ch. St. Jean 2002 Sonoma County Reserve Chardonnay has been a great experience and I would definitely recommend it / worth the price. (Usually I prefer reds as many of the whites I have tried taste "off", "over-ripe" or even yeasty. Not so with this superb wine!)

Great balance - ripe tropical fruit flavors with bright citrus on the finish. Yum.
