Winemaker's Notes

Complex cherry, chocolate and black fruit aromas jump from the nose of this Merlot. On the palate, black cherry, cedar and roasty tobacco lead to a full, round mouth with firm structure and elegance.

Premium grapes were selected from the finest vineyards in the Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Russian River Valley. This wine consists of Merlot (82%) blended with Cabernet Sauvignon (11%), Malbec (5%) and Petit Verdot (2%). Each component was aged separately for 12 months in French and American oak before blending.

Here is a merlot that excites…. full of vivid fruit flavors, it evidences satisfying depth and nuanced subtlety. Delicious now, it will be even better (because more complex) with a year or two of bottled age.

The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...

Learn About Merlot

Merlot(mehr-LOW) No second fiddle Merlot is coming back into its own. High popularity led to mass production, which then led to a backlash towards the variety (remember Miles in Sideways?). But passionate Merlot producers, and of course the right bank of Bordeaux, continued to produce quality versions of this grape. Merlot remains the principle grape of top chateaux in St...
