Chateau Rauzan Segla (1.5 Liter Magnum) 2005
Bordeaux Red Blends from Margaux, Bordeaux, France
The wines of Château Rauzan-Ségla express, first and foremost, the internationally recognized characteristics of the Margaux terroir: an elegant, fragrant bouquet, lots of taste on the palate, a well-balanced structure and very great elegance.
But beyond these recognizable features, there is the individual signature of the Château. A deep robe with a sparkle of the future, a texture that is velvet smooth, an elegant palate on which the characteristics of the grapes burst forth, together with touches of violets. Drinking this classified growth is indeed a special event.
"Very beautiful aromas of crushed berry, flowers, currant and Indian spices follow through to a full body, with ultrafine tannins and a long, long finish. Extremely polished and beautiful, with a seamless texture. Best after 2014. 10,000 cases made.
"A wine with a beautiful mouthfeel and shape. This is rich, gleaming in the ripe black fruits, the touch of spice and mint, as well as the sweet blackberry flavors. The acidity is balanced, showing off the fruit. There is weight and density as well."
"One distinguishing factor of this vintage is that it managed to create a wine such as this: a finely tailored, seamless Margaux that has the textural caress of silk while its tannins explode in a long, slow roundhouse punch so that you don't notice them until they are all that you see. And yet it doesn't feel crass or aggressive. The spiciness of the wine brings anise to mind; the flavor depth carries dark fruit into mineral territory. Completely of a piece, Rauzan is significantly more expressive than it was en primeur. This has an unaffected stamina that will keep it going for 25 years or more."
Wine & Spirits
"One of the most beautiful Rauzan-Seglas made in decades, this blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest primarily Merlot and tiny dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot exhibits a gorgeous perfume of spring flowers, subtle mint, black cherries, black currants, licorice, and a hint of new oak. It offers medium to full body, sweet tannins, and a layered mouthfeel that builds incrementally to a sensational finish. Although this beauty is performing well, it remains a decade away from its plateau of maturity. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2030+.
