Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Powerful, heady, deep and full of harmony. The tannins are very qualitative, they are silky and delicate, giving an impression of volume and length in the mouth. The intensity of the colors is of an excellent level and can be compared to this of the previous years.

Critical Acclaim

"Opaque ruby. Exotic aroma of raspberry preserves, cherry pie, Asian spices and garrigue expands with air and picks up a deeper cherry quality. Spicy, mineral-driven red and dark berry flavors are impressively lithe and precise, with silky tannins lending support. This very fresh wine finishes with excellent clarity and spicy persistence. "
92 Points

"Generous oak scents introduce this wine, but given time in the glass, the fruit comes up chewy, spicy and cherry-hued, indicative of the high percentage of grenache in the blend. Licorice and stone notes add detail. For a lamb stew."
91 Points

"This has a core of dark plum and fig fruit, but it's pushed by a slightly high-toned black cherry and floral note, with hints of anise and black licorice checking in on the finish. Tangy for the vintage. Drink now through 2019."

Learn About Chateau Mont Redon Map ItMap It

Established in 1344, Chateau Mt. Redon is one of the oldest wine-producing estates in France and the largest single property in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyards are planted in the 13 grape varieties of the region and are covered with large, smooth stones which reflect the sun warmth by day and residual heat by night into the maturing grapes.

Learn About Chateauneuf-du-Pape

(shah-too-NUHF due Pahp) Southern Rhone's landmark region, Chateauneuf du Pape, was the first region to gain AC status in France. That was the 1920s - it's history goes much further back than that. As the name suggests, the wine region was named after the new papal home, referring to the period of time in the 1300's when the pope resided in Avignon instead of Rome. Notable Facts...

Most of these varieties are used as secondary blending partners, often comprising less than 10% of the blend. The primary red players of Rhone blends are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Most wines from the Southern Rhone use Grenache as their...
