winemaker's notes:
Grape varieties: 70 % merlot, 20 % cabernet franc, 10 % cabernet sauvignon
Average age of the vines: 28 years
An intense ruby-red colour. Delicate woody aromas with notes of toast and ripe fruit. In the mouth the attack is supple and full, the tannins refined and the structure very aromatic. The red fruit comes to the fore - blackberry and cherry. Excellent concentration and a fresh finish with good aromatic return of the fruit.

Like the original Casablanca in black and white as one of my favorite movies, I keep coming back to the 2001 as one of my favorite Bordeaux. Of course taste is in the palate of the beholder, but even friends who are partial to white have found the 2001 pleasing in every sense. I have enjoyed the 2001 with a nice Delmonico, Alaskan Salmon, and even Tostitoes with Jalapeno salsa. It has wonderful balance - have I mentioned it's one of my favorites?! I confess that I initially purchased one or two bottles at a time to make sure I was not simply infatuated -but I have since ordered by the case.

The 1999 or 2001 Monbousquet are simply fantastic. I actually had the 99 at the movie theater!! (shhhhh). Yes...out of a plastic cup, and pretty much without the proper tasting you can do at home. I ended up buying it again to taste it properly. Its color is a deep purple with a nice pink coating of the glass. The taste is smooth and velvety, with a mix of chocolate and roasted meat flavours and a touch of vainilla. The aftertaste is long lasting and soft. Typical of a merlot and cab franc wine. Enjoy....but watch the movie at home.
