Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Winemaker's Notes

Bright, deep garnet color. Well developed nose in which red and black fruit and floral notes mix together. Harmonious palate with tannins that are still a bit for but full and elegant, leading to a fine finish.

Critical Acclaim

"A soft, fruity wine, with blackberry, coffee and light vanilla on the nose and palate. Full, with very velvety tannins and a long, flavorful finish."

I'm a long time fan of Ch. Marquis D'Alesme, an archetypal, elegant Margaux that I bought many times during the 1960s and 1970s. It is an overlooked and underrated chateau, a real sleeper. This was a special treat and a bargain because wine.com sold me Magnums of a near great year for a price that could have been applied for mere 750ml bottles. What a buy!
