Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 13.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Critical Acclaim

"Love the nose of flowers, blackberries and minerals. Full and very silky with fresh acidity and a clean, long finish. Sexy. 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc.
Barrel Sample: 93-94 Points"

"Good full, deep red. Aromatically pure nose offers scents of black cherry, blackcurrant, spices and minerals. Sweet, dense and suave if currently a bit youthfully withdrawn, conveying excellent tension and grip thanks to nicely integrated acidity. Finishes very long, with mounting, rather austere tannins. A bit forbidding today but has the stuffing to age well. The harvest occurred over the usual 15 days, but started ten days earlier than usual: the merlot was picked on September 6-7 and 13-21, and the cabernet franc between September 19 and 21.
Barrel Sample: 89-92 Points"
92 Points

"The grand vin, the 2011 l’Evangile exhibits a dark ruby color with purple nuances as well as noticeable acidity, a streamlined, crisp, elegant, mid-weight style, red and black fruits, light tannin and a fresh, vibrant mouthfeel. It is a blend of 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.
Barrel Sample: 88-90 Points"

Here lies Chateau Petrus, one of the most expensive and sought-after wines of the world - many vintages commanding prices higher than the first-growth chateaux of the Medoc. The area is all vines, with no real town...
