winemaker's notes:
Bright, very pure, clear color; fine, complex mineral nose and slightly spicy. The palate is well structured with fine, precise, tight tannins. The wood is still noticeable and produces a long, very tight finish. Notes of dried fruit and candied red fruit combine to create a very elegant palate in this vintage that is particularly characteristic of the Margaux appellation. The mid-palate is powerful and sleek, developing flavours of strawberry and cooked plums, delicately wrapped in chocolate and a subtle woodiness. The concentrated finish is still very tight and needs another ten years to mature.
critical acclaim:
"Well balanced wine, the spiced wood integrating well with the rich plum and berry juice fruits. Firm, but generous. Barrel Sample: 92-94 Points "

Wine Enthusiast
"A very sexy, seductive style of wine has been produced by Du Tertre in 2009. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by ripe notes of red and black fruits intermixed with subtle smoke, ink, and damp earth. The lusciousness continues on the palate with an opulent, layered, rich mouthfeel. Medium to full-bodied with not a hard edge to be found, but plenty of ripe tannins, the overall impression is one of a hedonistic and intellectually pleasing claret that should drink beautifully for 20+ years. This is a sleeper of the vintage among the classified-growths. 90-92 Points"

The Wine Advocate
"Purple-ruby. Intensely spicy aromas of ripe red fruit, violet and camphor. Light and lively on the palate, with a juicy, penetrating quality to the strawberry, raspberry, spice and minerals flavors. Finishes with an edge of cinnamon and white pepper. Hardly a blockbuster, but rather an elegant, sexy wine with terrific energy and lift. I love the aromatic touch provided by the estate's very old cabernet franc vines. 89-92 Points"

International Wine Cellar
"Quite perfumy at first, with lilac, damson plum and singed bay leaf notes up front, followed by darker yet still caressing steeped black cherry, worn leather and espresso notes on the back end. Best from 2013 through 2023."
