winemaker's notes:
The wine has a lovely, deep colour with a cherry tint and a bouquet which displays powerful berry fruit and blackcurrant aromas alongside toast and roasted coffee. From a creamy attack with plenty of heft, fruity and pleasantly oaked, it builds on well-developed, forward tannins to a body rich in ripe fruit flavours which combine the character and power of blackcurrant with the elegance and refinement of vanilla. The finish, long and flavoursome but still rather reserved, gives a foretaste of the full potential of this generous vintage.

This deep, ruby-red wine is yet another magnificent effort from the Rothschild vineyards, underrated as they are, and one of the best medoc wines I've had in a long time. One imagines however, and Parker backs this up, that owners of this wine would do well to hold onto it for at least 5-6 years, probably lots more. Blackcurrant, cherry and other fruit flavors my palate was too ignorant to identify (but not unable to enjoy!), are followed up by coffee and light toasty flavors, probably from the barrels. The wine itself is almost massive, certainly large and powerful from start to finish, and rates well with MUCH higher-priced wines from the same vintage and region, in my opinion. Buy and hold on to this, although it can be enjoyed now, but the rest of my case is going in the cellar until at least 2010!
