In the glass this wine is opaque purple. The 1998 is a dazzling wine with exceptional flavors of blackberry and coffee creme brulee. It is full bodied and nicely balanced. Ch. Angelus is much prized as a leader in Saint Emilion quality revolution.
"Tasted at The Ledbury Bordeaux lunch. This is a great Angelus from Hubert de Bouard. Very deep in colour, the nose does not appear to have moved on significantly from the previous showing in 2007. In fact, it is surprisingly tight on the nose and only reluctantly offers blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate and black olive aromas. The palate is very refined with a Burgundian finesse: notes of blackberry, cassis, crushed stone and a touch of iron. Full-bodied of course, powerful, and focused with a symmetrical finish. At 12-years of age, it probably needs the same again to reach its peak. Drink 2015-2030."
