Winemaker's Notes

Deep garnet red with purplish highlights. Red fruit aromas (raspberry, black currant), with a hint of liquorice. Good attack, round and elegant wine with concentrated and gentle tannins. The final is on blackcurrant, raspberry and spicy (pepper) aromas when it is young.

Critical Acclaim

"A very rich, authoritative style, with broad structure and lots of cocoa and dark fig paste notes leading the way for ample charcoal, roasted alder, espresso and steeped black currant fruit. Rich and long, this has the depth for cellaring. Best from 2014 through 2024."
94 Points

"For starters, there are 1,627 cases of the 2009 Ermitage Monier de la Sizeranne. Lots of peppery, meaty notes are found in this dense purple-colored 2009 along with sweet tannin, a full-bodied, layered mouthfeel and outstanding purity. Three to five years of cellaring will be beneficial, and the wine should keep for two decades."
90 Points

"Opaque ruby. Cherry and dark berries on the pungent, mineral-accented nose. Taut and sharply focused, with energetic dark fruit flavors and a hint of candied violet. Gains sweetness with air and finishes with lingering florality and very good clarity."
