Winemaker's Notes

Since 1982, fermentation and ageing have been carried out on lees in oak barrels, from which the wines derive their uniquely characteristic balance, elegance and complex aromatic structure, as well as their impressive ageing potential. As they mature, the wines reach a rarely equalled peak of perfection, denoting a truly great dry white, typical of the Pessac Léognan appellation.

Learn About Ch. Couhins-Lurton

André Lurton was the tenant farmer of the Couhins vineyard from 1967 to 1979. In 1970, André Lurton purchased a portion of the estate from the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique, the product of which is today commercialised as "Château Couhins-Lurton", a Graves Classified Growth, comprising some 6 hectares planted solely with Sauvignon grapes, a rarity in Bordeaux. The estate naturally produces only dry white wines.

Learn About Bordeaux White Blends

Bordeaux White Blend
There's white wine in Bordeaux, too! Typically made from Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and bits of Muscadelle, white Bordeaux can be a fully dry table wine or, as in Sauternes, a deliciously sweet dessert wine. In other areas of the world, a Bordeaux blend consists primarily of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, either of which may be the predominant variety. Bordeaux blends can vary in style, but most have good acidity and often a mineral overtone.
