winemaker's notes:

The grapes are picked at the optimal ripeness level: harvesting is carried out by hand and the grapes are placed in trays to be transported back to the winery. At Chauvin, the wine is made in the traditional way, while also making the most of what modernity has to offer: nothing is done systematically and each year every effort is focused on adapting the techniques used to the qualities of that year's grapes.

alcohol by volume: 13.5%
critical acclaim:

"Chauvin's successful 2005 ranks alongside their 2000 and 1998. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by lovely aromas of black currants, cherries, smoke, meats, and minerals. Superb purity, full body, good acidity, and moderate tannin suggest this fleshy, substantial St.-Emilion will be drinkable in 3-4 years, and last for 15 or more. Rating 90-92 Points."

rating (11/8/2011):

I really liked this wine in a Bordeaux line up we did. It's affordable (under $50) and it has very clean fruit, excellent acidity, and a really nice, long balanced finish. Everything was in harmony. It tasted like Bordeaux, not Bordeaux trying to be California, but it had some oomph behind its elegant frame. yum :)
