Item No. 97438
ratings pedigree (past vintages):
red wine style:
Light & Fruity Smooth & Supple Earthy & Spicy Big & Bold
winemaker's notes:

Saturated dark violet in color, with aromas of cassis, mocha and clove. A combination of density and sweetness, with gripping flavors of dark berries, tobacco, spices and minerals. A palate staining finish dominated by sweet black and blue fruits.

critical acclaim:

"The 2005 Malbec Argentino is a blend of the Nicasia and Adrianna Vineyards. As is often the case, the blend is better (although not by much) than either of the individual components. It offers greater complexity both aromatically and on the palate, opulence, great fruit expression, and superb aging potential. Drink this beautifully rendered wine from 2015 to 2035."

The Wine Advocate

"This blend from the Nicasia and Adrianna vineyards is the best Malbec on the market today. There’s raisin, mineral, licorice, blackberry and more. The mouth is like a Mack truck on ice skates, meaning it’s both huge and elegant. And the mile-long finish of coffee, mocha and molten black fruit is awesome. Drink now through 2013. "

Wine Enthusiast

"Ambitious, with lots of muscular, very toasty fig, blueberry, black currant and boysenberry flavors wound together by bittersweet cocoa and fruitcake notes. The long, powerful finish will need some time to stretch out fully. Drink now through 2013. 200 cases imported. "

95 Points

Wine Spectator

"Full ruby-red. Musky dark fruits and bitter chocolate on the brooding nose, with a strong kirsch note emerging with aeration. Powerful and deep but youthfully closed, with terrific grip to the flavors of cassis, dark chocolate and minerals. Quite closed and young today, but with its fine-grained tannins and slowly building persistence this single-vineyard malbec appears to be built for a positive evolution in bottle."

92 Points

International Wine Cellar

"A blend of grapes from Gualtallary and Altamira in the Uco Valley, this Malbec is sweet with caramelized aromas and deep flavors of fig and black cherry. To sip by the fireplace."
