winemaker's notes:

Number 82 on the Wine.com 100 of 2007!

Medium violet. Delicious. Aromas and flavors of blueberry, black berry with beef jerky and vanilla-spice.

"Young, dark and handsome, this is an example of what Jumilla can do when good grapes and good winemaking come together. The palate is chewy and full of earthy blackberry flavors, while the finish is smooth, ripe and long. Drink now through 2008. One of the best Jumillas you're likely to find."

I would buy this wine again

This is a dark colored wine with a lot of tannin that is complex and attractive to my taste.

I would not buy this wine again

Monestrell is normally used as a blending grape, so I didn't know what to expect. It tends to be high in tannins and very tart. Lucky for us Jumilla is one of the best regions to grow this tasty grape. Ok, I will admit that at first I was not very moved. With 14% alcohol this wine can be pretty hard to balance. On that note, make sure to let it decant for around 10 minutes. This monestrell has a deep purple color to it. A nose of prune, maple and just a touch alcoholic. Once decantered the taste was excellent. Has hints of earth, beef-jerky, charcoal and black raspberry. A strong reminder of Spanish wines. Try a bottle and enjoy!

Many studies report and winemakers agree that screw caps protect wine better and preserve its flavor more effectively than cork. More importantly, screw caps eliminate cork taint caused by TCA, a compound which develops in a small percentage of corks and ruins the taste of wine.
