Cape Mentelle Chardonnay 2004
Chardonnay
from Margaret River, Australia
winemaker's notes:
Appearance: Pale gold in appearance
Aroma: Aromas of nectarines and figs combined with the sweet spice of gingernut biscuits greet the nose.
Palate: The palate opens with rich quince paste and cardamon spiced poached pears. The mid-palate has refined peaches and cream, subtle mealy notes and a lingering finish resonating with crisp lemon zest.
"As befits its regional provenance and fully mature vines, always from the top drawer. The usual winemaking tricks, with barrel fermentation and nine months on lees, result in a potent, complex and powerful wine. A delightful streak of minerally acidity holds the generous nectarine and melon fruit together, the positive oak in balance."

This is a marvelous Chardonnay. I can't vouch for the variety of tastes detected by the experts, but I can say it's very smooth, wonderful to the taste with a subtle oakiness, not overdone. It finishes well.
