Winemaker's Notes

Lovely deep, dark purple-red. Smooth and fruity initial burst with classic raspberry and black cherry bouquet and flavors.

Pair with rice, pasta, vegetables, stewed meats, sausage, pork, roast meat, red and/or white meat with sauces, grilled meat, and cheeses.

Critical Acclaim

"Bright ruby. Intense, smoke-accented aromas of cherry-cola, blackberry and licorice, with a peppery overtone. Juicy and broad but precise, with deep dark fruit flavors given spine and lift by tangy acidity. Closes sweet and long, with strong spicy cut and sweetness."

Instant classic with my family. This is the first wine I have tried coming off of liquors and beers and I can never get tired of it. Smooth, yet still has a slight kick.

Learn About Can Blau

The D.O. Montsant, where Can Blau is located, is a horse shoe shaped appellation that surrounds the D.O. Priorat on three sides. It should have been included on the Priorat appellation but was excluded. Can Blau is composed of 60 acres of vineyards with an average age of 35 years. The soils are similar to Priorat with Montsant being a bit more complex with a mixture of slate (llicorella), sandy clay and chalk.

The most popular red varieties of Spain include Tempranillo and Garnacha (Grenache). Whites don't garner quite as much recognition, but there are some regional varieties not to be missed, like Albarino...

The Rhone region of France has a delightful selection of red varieties. There are 22 grapes allowed in the Rhone AOC, about half of them red. Most of these varieties are used as secondary blending partners, often comprising less than 10% of the blend. The primary red players of Rhone blends are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Most wines from the Southern Rhone use Grenache as their...
