The 1995 Reserve Chardonnay is the product of an outstanding growing year. Irregular weather during the setting period of the grapes in the spring made for a lighter than normal crop, harvest was late, and yields in general were down. But the resultant lengthy "hang time" for the grapes made for great quality, a year winemakers characterized as late, light, and luscious. The aromas of the wine display a combination of rich toasty vanilla and melon and pear fruit. Full-bodied and luscious in the mouth, the wine has what Bruce describes as a certain "mineral quality" which balances its subtle pineapple and lemon flavors.
