Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

An extremely fine and elegant wine from one of the great vineyards of Castiglione Falletto. The color is garnet red with light orange colored reflections. The nose is balanced and intense with violets, strawberries, prunes, cherries, mint, woody essence, licorice and some balsamic notes. The taste begins slowly, but it grows incrementally until coating the palate.

This wine can combine with every dish (except sweets) going particularly well with meat dishes and dry mature cheese.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2007 Barolo Rocche emerges from the glass with freshly cut roses, sweet berries and spices. The Rocche is always the most open of Brovia’s single vineyard Baroli. In 2007 the wine has an extra dimension of textural richness that makes it incredibly appealing even at this young stage. Floral notes reappear on the silky, pure finish. This is a fabulous showing, but the wine will be even better in a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027."
96 Points

"Good fresh, full red. Ripe currant and plum aromas lifted by a strong violet quality. Sweet, silky and light on its feet, with terrific energy and lift to the fruit and floral flavors. Wonderfully fine-grained Barolo, finishing with suave tannins that coat the front teeth. For all its early appeal, there's excellent medicinal reserve here as well."

Learn About Brovia

L'azienda Brovia is a traditional Piemontese family winegrowing estate. Giacinto Brovia began making wine there in 1863 followed by his son Antonio. Phylloxera, economic upheaval and finally the war interrupted production for almost 30 years. In 1953 Giacinto, Raffaele and Marina were old enough to take over the farm and resume winemaking. Family involvement doesn't end there...

(PEED-mont) Piedmont is located in the Northwest area of Italy, hugging the Mediterranean coast. The regional capital, Turin, is situated smack in the middle of the province. Being close to the alps, the area enjoys a high altitude, with the best vineyards benefiting from the hills and elevation. Known for its famous sub-districts, Piedmont delivers some of the most...

Learn About Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo(neh-bee-OH-low) The King of Piedmont Nebbiolo is the key grape in the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is not the most planted variety, but it does make the most distinctive and age-worthy wines. Native to Piedmont, Nebbiolo is a bit of a soil snob - it's finicky about where it grows and has long been the honored red grape of Northern Italy...
