Style: Light & Fruity

Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 12.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Brilliant cherry red. Red fruit aromas, cherry, kirsch with notes of lime and mint. A plump wine with a lot of fruit and a delicate note of wood. Good persistence. Harmonious and well balanced.

Pair with grilled or roasted red meats, light game, poultry and mild cheeses.

Wonderful light/medium body with a nose of violets, blueberries. The flavors of cassis and black licorice/anise/Pernod make this wine seems slightly mystical to me. There is a quality about this wine that makes me think of the Moulin Rouge...incense, tobacco, pastille de violets, with a hint of spearmint and rosemary.

This Pinot from France came as a suprise considering it's prictag. Although at first everything was light nose/taste. As it opened up was light but kept me interested and getting more and more. Then nose became Smoky; Floral (violets then rose); Root beer and citrus. Then Taste Smoke; cherry; spice; Root beer; Rose Licorice and Vanilla. Paired this bottle with salty ham Jarlsberg cheese and corn chips.

This was quite good. It was not too dry, nor too alcoholic tasting. I am not a huge wine drinker but this reminded me of non-alcoholic wine with a bit of a Mogen David/Communion wine sweetness in the aftertaste.
