Bonny Doon Syrah Le Pousseur 2008
Syrah/Shiraz
from Central Coast, California
winemaker's notes:
Brilliant deep garnet with rose highlights and a bewitching perfume of ripe black cherry, plum, and anise, plus an earthiness that's evocative of the Northern Rhône cuvées of Cornas. Supple tannins yield to bright, brambly berries, black cherry, red currant, plum, and licorice. Silky and nuanced,
with a juicy core that balances the fruit and earth.
The 2008 Syrah Le Pousseur" is named for an alchemist and trickster, but is withal an incredibly accessible wine, great by the glass but also a felicitous partner to all manner of roasted meats,
poultry, game, wild mushrooms, and aged cheeses.
critical acclaim:
"Dark ruby. Cherry and dark chocolate on the nose, with complicating notes of licorice and cracked pepper. Firm, focused and on the dry side, with chewy dark fruit flavors and a touch of bitter herbs. Becomes more floral with air and finishes on a gently smoky note, with good grip and cut. I like this wine's balance and focus but would have enjoyed some more sweetness and flesh; aeration helps, and so might some bottle age.
