A big, dark, intense wine. Fragrant, violet nose. Lush, dark, blackberry jam palate with a structured, slightly leathery finish.
"The opaque purple-colored 2010 Tarima Hill exhibits notes of chocolate fudge, pen ink, graphite, blueberries and blackberries. This full-bodied, 100% Monastrell should drink well for a decade or more."
The Wine Advocate
"Opaque ruby. Powerful cherry and cassis aromas are brightened by suave mineral, star anise and floral elements. Intense dark berry flavors are pleasantly bitter and surprisingly lithe, with spice and violet pastille notes adding interest. Gains sweetness and depth on the subtly tannic, very long finish, which leaves smoky mineral and floral notes behind."
International Wine Cellar
The project is a joint venture of Jorge Ordonez and the Gil family located in Jumilla Spain. The grapes are 100% Monastrell with the age of the vines 25- 35 years old. The wine is 100% stainless steel fermented with some stirring of the lees to attain the maximum out of this variety. The soils are very chalky and are at an elevation of some 2,100 feet above sea level. The winery owns some (80 hectares) 192 acres of vineyards, some are under organic practices and are currently in the process of being certified organic.
Created as a DO in 1966, Jumilla has undergone a revolution of sorts in the past few decades. The new generation of wines have caused the region to blossom and exports have increased. The region itself is nicely settled in Southwest Spain, somewhat inland, between La Mancha and the Mediterranean sea, creating a good grape-growing climate.
