One of the only wineries in the D.O. Rías Baixas that produces wine solely from estate-owned fruit, Bodegas Fillaboa is unique in their commitment to a single bottling per vintage, helping to prevent bottle variation and ensure consistent quality. All wines produced by Fillaboa are made from the Albariño grape variety, a thick-skinned grape known for its rich variety of aromas (16 different aromas have been scientifically recognized) and believed to be most closely related to Riesling. Alive with complex aromas of fresh pineapple, spring flowers, citrus and white pears, Fillaboa's 2008 Joven Albariño has a brilliant golden hue. Complex layers of tropical and orchard fruit are also exhibited on the palate, which enhance the wine's freshness and complexity. With crisp acidity and soft tannins, this wine is elegant and refined with a very long finish.
"Juicy and broad, this wine has enough fatness to match grilled albacore tuna. These's a seagrass tartness and heat to the acidity that needs time to integrate. With air, those aspects seem to mellow, as they may with six months in bottle."
Wine & Spirits
"The 2008 Albarino is medium straw-colored with an attractive perfume of mineral, spring flowers, lemon, and pineapple. Creamy-textured and fresh on the palate, it has lively acidity, spicy flavors, and excellent balance. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.
The Wine Advocate
"Bright yellow-gold. Aromas of lime zest, melon and lemon thyme. Nervy and taut on entry, then creamier in the middle, with juicy flavors of ripe melon, fresh pineapple and spicy herbs. Slightly warm but fresh albarino with good fruity persistence."
