Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

This red is a blend of hand-picked Mazuelo, Garnacha, and Syrah, grown on vines that are 30+ years old. Although aged for more than four months in French and American barrels, the wine is a complex blend of wild blackcurrants and rustic garrigue aromas; the oak is never overpowering. It is balanced by silky tannins, and ends with lively, well-integrated acidity. If you like rustic-style wines, don't miss this Montsant!

Critical Acclaim

"(50% carinena, 30% garnacha and 20% syrah, fermented in stainless steel and then aged for four months in French and American oak): Bright violet color. Musky blueberry, cassis and lavender on the nose, with complicating mineral and white pepper nuances. Supple, sweet and smooth, with very good energy and lift to its dark fruit and spice flavors. Finishes with supple tannins and bright, tangy persistence. "
