winemaker's notes:

#52 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2010

90% Tempranillo, 6% Mazuelo, 4% Graciano.

Dense bright cherry color. Atrractive and intense nose where aromas of red fruits stand out with notes of bakery and fine wood. Very full in the mouth, fresh and fruity with sweet and powerful tannins. A reserve that will improve with time.

alcohol by volume: 13.5%
critical acclaim:

"This sleek red shows currant, licorice and smoke flavors in a racy texture, with light, firm tannins and bright orange peel acidity. Offers drive and elegance. Drink now through 2014"

Wine Spectator

"Aromas of leather, smoked meats, charred oak and lacquer are not for the weak, while the mouthfeel is firm, deep and just right. Juicy and bright in terms of flavors, with black cherry, vanilla and coconut. Toasty and alert on the finish, but with smacking tannins. Drinkable now and good for another four or five years."

rating (5/14/2011):
Very thin red wine. Didn't seem to have any distinct qualities.
rating (12/21/2010):
Served six of the WS 2010-2011 top 100. Bodegas was first or second choice among 40% of the guests. I have found other tempranillo (blends) that are as good and much less expense. I continue to shop around. However, the wine is dense and elegant. Big in the mouth, but I noted a slightly metallic taste on the finish. Could be me, and I look forward to another bottle to confirm.
