Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Gorgeous nose of berries and flavors of vanilla, spice, graphite and mocha. Great acidity and minerality that drive the finish to remarkable lengths. Excellent with any kind of red meat meals with hearty sauces.

Critical Acclaim

"Dense, but incredibly pure and driven, with graphite, mineral and red licorice notes driving the core of raspberry and boysenberry ganache. Long and superfresh on the finish. Rich and refined. This drinks like a Burgundy, but it's distinctly Malbec. Drink now through 2018. "

"At first, this wine shows little beyond oak and the maturity of the fruit. With time in the glass, smoked meat and black cherry aromas emerge, while the structure remains hard. Made from malbec vines planted in the mid-1950s on alluvial soils, this is a great wine from Patagonia that needs at least another three or four years in the bottle to show its full potential."
94 Points

"Bright ruby-red. High-pitched aromas of blackberry, violet, sexy sandalwood and blood orange. Juicy and penetrating, with an almost pinot-like texture to the flavors of black fruits, minerals, blood orange and mint. Offers perfume, definition and lift rare for Argentine wine. Finishes juicy, firm and long, with lovely energy. Classy juice. 92(+?) Points"
92 Points

"As per usual, this Patagonian beauty ranks high on our scale of classy Malbecs. It’s well-oaked, which results in hickory and campfire aromas alongside dark berries and mineral. The palate is ripe and meaty, with blackberry and coffee flavors. Some vanilla and coconut on the finish is a reminder of the fine oak treatment this wine receives. Fine acidity and tannic structure only help it to achieve its goal."

First plated in 1932, the original pre-phylloxera rootstock of the vineyards was carefully resuscitated starting in 2001, and winemaker Hans...

Learn About Argentina

(ahr-jen-TEE-nah) Now fifth in the world for wine production, Argentina is catching up in the quality wine sector. A long time wine producer, Argentina used to make wine in order to drink it, not export it. And so the wines produced were quaffable and rustic and made for the local's everyday dinner. Yet it's hard not to get caught up in the wine market of the world and some...
